CORE PREMISE

Nyx is a cyberpunk-noir setting centered on New York X, called Nyx by anyone who hasn’t sold their soul, a heavily corporatized independent city-state born from economic collapse, political fragmentation, and corporate conquest.

Many cyberpunk settings focus on chrome futurism and sleek minimalism; however, Nyx is tactile, dirty, analog, loud, and very grounded. The world runs on physical media, hardwired systems, discs, tapes, cartridges, CRTs, clunky industrial machinery, and ruggedized equipment - but it also supports advanced cybernetics, neural operating systems, cyber optics, autonomous drones, synthetic biology, and invasive digital infrastructure.

Technology evolved in contrast to our own world; tapes and cartridge technology has improved dramatically over other forms of tech. The result is a world where humanity relies on physical hardware and localized systems rather than wireless networks, cell phone towers, and other sleeker technology.

This is the kind of setting where you would go to the pharmacy, pick up a firmware update cartridge, take it home, pop it into your personal terminal at home (or a clinic if you don’t own one), and hook your uplink cable into the terminal to update your neural OS.

An anti-corporate paramilitary organization. Known associates include NOMAD, VECTOR, JESTER, ACE, and RIOT.

VEXERA

The largest corporation in the US, with the one and only Sterling St. Leon on top. The governing body of Nyx.

14th ST. MISFITS

A group of criminals and outcasts who don't shy away from drugs, violence, and the underground of NYX.

The Sentinel Project

Formerly headed by Alexei Volkov, this project represents the pinnacle of Vexera's surveillance and enforcement capabilities. SENTINEL is a supercomputer of thus unknown nature. Reports state that it possesses computing power that the world has never seen. It allows the system to possess intuition and pattern recognition beyond what people are capable of. It serves as the ultimate bottleneck for all information in Nyx.
